It's my Birthday!
Well, not MY birthday, but the birthday of my website and blog. I’m hoping to use this blog to share writing tips and book reviews, as well as ideas for incorporating books into all parts of life.
I am so, so, so excited (Birthday Excited!) to be signed up for The Whispering Woods Picture Book Writing Workshop put on by the Fabulous Jill Esbaum and Linda Skeers. In preparing for the workshop, they’ve asked participants to read 30 (count ’em, 30) picture books. So I thought I would share what I’m reading here along with my thoughts.
I’ve decided not to include any of Jill or Linda’s wonderful books in my list because I’ve read them all and that sorta feels like cheating, but if you are interested in some excellent picture books they are listed on their websites and I highly recommend them.
The book for the day is FOUND by Salina Yoon (Bloomsbury) and WOW is it good. Bear finds a stuffed rabbit in the forest and looks for its owner. But the longer Bear has rabbit, the more attached he becomes. FOUND has a wonderful theme of doing the right thing and hilarious illustrations, the kind where you find something new with each reading. This is a book that makes me sigh and think, “I wish I could write like that!”
